The next spirit company I have chosen to write about is Hunter Laing. The company is based in Park Circus in the West End of Glasgow and are known for blending and bottling whisky worldwide.
The company is family-run, first founded by Fredrick Laing in 1949 and now owned by Stewart Laing and his two sons, Andrew and Scott. The Laing family has deep roots in the whisky industry, which has been pivotal in creating their brand today. What sets Hunter Laing apart is their focus on single-cask bottlings, allowing whisky lovers the chance to experience unique expressions from different regions, meaning each release can capture the individuality of the spirit from various distilleries.
The company opened their first distillery on Islay in 2019, Ardnahoe Distillery. More recently, this year, they released their first single malt from the distillery, the Ardnahoe 5-Year-Old. This is a huge milestone in the company’s journey and is a testament to the hard work put into the company for many decades.
Hunter Laing has various ‘Journey’ ranges as well as the ‘Old and Rare’ and the ‘Old Malt Cask’ releases. These ranges highlight the various flavour profiles and characteristics of the whisky and create distinctive journeys for consumers. By having so many whiskies on offer, the company provides both familiar whisky profiles as well as rare finds, which can cater to many customers within their target audiences. Have a look at their releases here!

This company also has more of a personal connection to myself. As well as operating a distillery on my native home, Islay, my older brother works for the company as their Commercial Trading Coordinator, allowing him to travel to numerous countries to work at whisky shows and promote Hunter Laing, something I am very proud he has achieved!
(This is a wee photo of my brother Ryan, at a Burns Dinner in January where he was representing Hunter Laing, most likely about to sing!)
I hope you have enjoyed this insight into Hunter Laing! Let me know in the comments if you have heard of the brand before or had a chance to try any of their products, I would love to hear from you!
Very interesting read! I am very keen to try the Ardnahoe 5-year-old!
