Hi everyone! My name is Rachel Johnston and I am currently a third year student at the University of Strathclyde studying Marketing and Human Resource Management. For my marketing module this semester, I have created a blog all about alcoholic spirits born from Glasgow based companies. Each blog post will include a different company from Glasgow, a little bit about their history, what spirits they produce for their consumers and possibly even a wee cocktail recipe! Having grown up on Islay, and worked in the whisky industry for a number of years, I now want to expand that knowledge a little bit further with some other companies within the industry. Combining these elements I hope to create an exciting and engaging narrative which can showcase the vibrant scene of Glasgow's spirit companies. I really hope you enjoy. Thank you!
The first company I have chosen to research is the Glasgow Distillery, located in Hillington. Established in 2012, this distillery wanted to bring back the premium distillation of spirits within Glasgow. Their first product was released in 2014, the Makar Gin, Glasgow’s first-ever gin legally sold in restaurants and bars worldwide. In 2018, the distillery released its first single malt, Glasgow 1770. They went on to release numerous spirits including rum, vodka and many variations of whisky. Even if you are not a whisky lover (like myself), there are a range of flavours and ways to drink whisky that suit each palate. The Glasgow distillery uses this to its advantage by producing various types of spirits, such as peated and unpeated, blended whiskeys, and expressions for rum and vodka lovers .
