Founded in 2019, Glaswegin plays homage to the vibrant city of Glasgow with its distinctive approach. Edrington is a prominent Scottish company with roots dating back to the 19 th  century in Glasgow. Founded in 1861 by William Robertson, it began as a blending and bottling business. Over time, it has expanded into one of the UK's leading whisky producers, with iconic brands like the Macallan, Highland Park, and the Famous Grouse. The next spirit company I have chosen to write about is Hunter Laing. The company is based in Park Circus in the West End of Glasgow and are known for blending and bottling whisky worldwide.  The company is family-run, first founded by Fredrick Laing in 1949 and now owned by Stewart Laing and his two sons, Andrew and Scott. The Laing family has deep roots in the whisky industry, which has been pivotal in creating their brand today. What sets Hunter Laing apart is their focus on single-cask bottlings, allowing whisky lovers the chance to experience unique expressions from different regions, meaning each release can capture the individuality of the spirit from various distilleries.    The company opened their first distillery on Islay in 2019, Ardnahoe Distillery. The next spirit company I’ll discuss is the Clydeside Distillery, located along the historic River Clyde docks. I had the opportunity to visit last year for my tourism assignment, where the distillery generously offered us a complimentary tour. It was an engaging and insightful visit, and we even got to sample some drams!   The distillery prides itself in operating on the historic dock heritage in Glasgow. During the tour, they provide an immersive and interactive experience which takes consumers back to 1863 when the docks were first built. From there, we learnt about the whole of the whisky-making process and how the distillery got to where they are now! It was an amazing tour, and I would recommend trying this out when you are next in Glasgow.   Our group chose this distillery for our assignment because of its strong commitment to sustainability. The first company I have chosen to research is the Glasgow Distillery, located in Hillington. Established in 2012, this distillery wanted to bring back the premium distillation of spirits within Glasgow. Their first product was released in 2014, the Makar Gin, Glasgow’s first-ever gin legally sold in restaurants and bars worldwide. In 2018, the distillery released its first single malt, Glasgow 1770. They went on to release numerous spirits including rum, vodka and many variations of whisky.           Even  if you are not a whisky lover (like myself), there are a range of flavours and ways to drink whisky that suit each palate.
